First Thoughts – All of Us Are Dead

Normally, I tend to avoid anything with zombies nowadays, due to the unpopularity and oversaturation of what the zombie genre has become. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I have ever wrote “zombie genre” in my entire life, showing what we have unfortunately made unintentionally. That’s how bad it has gotten. After the releases of both Zombieland and The Walking Dead, we’ve gotten more zombie movies and more zombie TV shows to the point that I have no idea why I would even bother watching another thing that has to do with the said subject. Even The Walking Dead has no rhyme or reason to even exist anymore. It’s purpose for even being on air has vanished a long time ago, and now looks cheap in quality. To me, the whole zombie genre is just a boring waste of time for me to even give a damn anymore. Even Capcom was hesitant at first to remake both Resident Evil 2 and 3 due to how much they thought the genre has overstayed it’s visit.

As for me, why did I started watching All of Us Are Dead for after all that I have just said? Well, because The Critical Drinker recommended it, and I usually trust that plastered Scottish chad’s opinion, unlike most other critics these days.

Another reason for why is because Korea’s been on their A-game lately, showing us more of what they’re capable of, rather than just being that nation that is well known for giving us a bunch of dramas and BTS. So, does this show work for me? So far, it does, but not as much as most critics have been making it out to be.

It’s about a virus that breaks out a muck in a high school through a science teacher who thought about making a serum that could turn people aggressive enough to fight back, and used it on his son so he stop being such a loser at school. Not making that up. Should of taken him to Cobra Kai instead, moron. Anyway, he kept a lab rat that he was also testing the serum in his school that made a girl peek at it, and let her get bitten. Thus, the whole school get bitten like a game of Left 4 Dead, and you get the drill. It’s a lot like every other zombie series ever made, but for some reason it doesn’t feel as dull as I thought it would be, because I have seen this show being done a million times. As a matter of fact, this show is more close to High School of the Dead, except it isn’t as stupid, and doesn’t show off the fan service at all.

Not only is this show still a stupid, sloppy mess, but even the animation has aged poorly. And to think that the director of Death Note and Attack on Titan made this crap.

Anyway, I don’t have a lot to say about this show. The characters are not bad, but I have seen better first impressions before. I know that I only saw the first two episodes, so I’m trying to be as far with these characters and the story as I possibly can. The pacing and tone has grabbed my attention so far, and it does enough for you to want to see what will happen. This is, so far, a show to check out and give a try. I may not be as thrilled about it as most people are, but I am able to see it all the way through. That’s way more than what I can say about The Walking Dead.

Before and After – The Three Stooges

Since there isn’t a new movie out for me to watch to review that I usually do, I decided to change things up for a bit instead. I decided to watch The Three Stooges. Why? For a number of reasons. For starters, I am a huge fan of The Three Stooges! I loved it since I was a kid, sitting along side with my grandpa enjoying this show, which was one of the best memories that I had with him. If The Three Stooges has proven anything to us all about modern day entertainment it has to be it’s humor. Most people may not like older films or TV shows, because they might not understand it for various reasons. But if you ask me what the real reason for not liking anything old is that most audiences nowadays are too accustom to the newer form of entertainment. I can relate to that, since there’s a lot of older things that I don’t care for, but there are also a lot of old stuff that I do like, especially for things made around the time when The Three Stooges came out. As a matter of fact, one of my earliest memories of watching Disney films was both Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Pinocchio, which are both the first animated movies ever made! Entertainment like these are kind of making me grow and realize that I was always born to enjoy older classics.

Another reason for why I wanted to watch this movie is because of how polarizing this movie turned out to be, both before and after (hehe!) it’s release. The one issue that most people might have had was the Farrelly brothers as the directors. This might have been off-putting for some, since they both don’t have that great of a track record of good comedies, to my opinion at least. Out of all these movies and TV shows that they have both directed,

I only seen one that I liked from them.

But for me, I actually liked what I saw from the trailer. All, but the fact that they had The Real Jersey Shore in the trailer.

I’m so glad that the 2000s is dead.

But despite the negatives that I have seen, I still wanted to see this movie. It may not have looked like it was going to be perfect, but I wanted to find out if I would like it or not. Some who hated it, really hated it! But those who liked it, really liked it and were surprised as to how funny it turned out to be.

Hopefully, I will like it.

I liked it, despite it’s issues. I will get to that later, but I would like to share what made this movie worked for me. For starters, I don’t know who these people that they picked for the Larry, Curly, and Moe, but man do they make it all work! These have got to be the best replacements for the Three Stooges that I will never see being done by anyone better! The way how they perform their physical stunts, the use of dummies, the edits to speed up most of the scenes, just everything about it is as authentic as you can get to the original, despite it not being in black and white. The one thing that caught me off guard was Larry David as one of the nuns, which was hilarious to me!

The story of this movie is split into three parts, like watching the actual TV show itself as three shorts (which has it’s own issues, but we’ll get to that). You wanna know what this movie is about? Have you ever played the NES game before? Well, then that means you know what the movie is about. No kidding. But for those of you who have never played the game, or watched AVGN Ep. 117, here’s the story. The Orphanage The Three Stooges were raised in is in debt. So the Three Stooges are off to raise money to save the orphanage. That’s the whole story in a nutshell that was done better than the NES game. Oh, and wouldn’t you know it, it was made by Activision too.

The humor style in this movie is great, but I do have some issues with it. This movie is split into 3 parts, and these three parts are all 30 minutes long. The original shorts were a third of that. The issue here might be glaringly obvious for some of you who just read this, but for those of you who don’t get it, it’s that the humor does tend to wear off gradually. Of course, the original never had in mind to go over the runtime per short that they made, but you can tell that their shorts were never meant to go over what they gave us. Even the audiences back in the 1930s would get sick of it if a short back then were as long as 30 minutes. As for the rest of the characters, I really didn’t care for them. There was some involvement with a woman who was trying to get The Three Stooges to kill her husband so she can keep his money or something. I don’t know, and I don’t really care. All I wanted to do was see the Three Stooges just do Three Stooges stuff! That’s it! I mean, come on. Did we ever gave a crap about the story in each and every short we ever watched? Because I sure didn’t, and only watched those shorts for the three to beat each other up! …..like what I did with the movie. Well, they got me there!

Outside of that, I don’t have a lot to complain about, outside of the story, and Jersey Shore’s presence that does prove that nobody gives a damn about anymore. It was worth watching and figuring out my opinion. I enjoyed it for the most part as just okay. I might watch it again, but I’m not in a hurry to do so. Give it a chance. It won’t hurt to see if you like it or not.
