Updates on what’s going on – 2020 edition!

I know that this year hasn’t been everyone’s friend, but I have had some things that I have been trying to fix around personally. For the past several months, since the beginning of this year, I was busy going through the process of moving out, which is the point of the image above. You see here, two years ago, my dad got a huge news that Pat’s Blue Ribbon was going through a lawsuit against Miller, which is the brewing company that my dad works for. So I started taking my life seriously by getting a job that was better than warehouse and dishwashing. And then on January 4th of this year, Miller announced that they’re going to shut down the brewery completely on September. I was able to find a place for me to live on May, but with no internet! I wasn’t able to afford a router, nor pay for one either, as well as along with my rent and car insurance that I was paying for at the time. I was meant to release my Before and After review of The Rise of Skywalker a LOOOOOOONNNNNG time ago! But now you can see why that didn’t happen.

At the meantime, my brother and sister-in-law, as well as my aunt, told me that they were moving to Colorado, and they offered me to live in their old place that is cheaper! And, as you can tell, I have the internet again! But that doesn’t mean I will be uploading a ton now. I have a busy life where I’m working virtually everyday now. As of now, I’m trying to work on my promotion, as well as continuing to move my stuff in to my new place from my old one. Almost done though.

As for everything else on this site, I will be making some changes. My Rerunagae Reviews will no longer be around anymore. I just lost any desire to continue it is all. It might come back, but it’s very unlikely. My Quick Look Through Dragon Ball, on the other hand, is still ongoing if you can believe that. I just want to make my content on the series as professionally written as I can and make sure that I get as much info in there as I can. So you can tell why it’s taking a long time for me to get one article out, and it’s not just because of how busy my life has been. Before and After will still be a thing. Even though the movie theaters are still shut down, I will be able to still watch movies off of any streaming services that I can get to. I’ve been meaning to watch the Hey Arnold movie for a long time, as well as many other movies that I have never seen before to give my takes on.

I’m only writing this to let you know that everything is still okay! I’m still alive, and I love you all very much!

Before and After – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Before

Have you ever put yourself in a situation that ticked you off so much that you can’t help but feel obligated to do something about it? Well, I did just last week. I made a comment on Facebook by saying that I was glad to skip out of watching the newest Star Wars movie, and someone wrote what I believe to be a 20 sentence explanation as to why I should skip out on a movie because the previous films were bad. My recent response, and yes, I just recently responded to him because I have a job now, was “But did it suck?” I say that, because this logic can apply to just about anything. You can apply this to the Transformers movies, or basically all of Michael Bay’s movies (excluding 13 Hours) and it CAN work. I had to capitalize the word “can” because it doesn’t always work. But after having this huge losing streak of the new Star Wars movies reputation, I’m starting to feel confident that I’m right about this being trash. Not only that, but I don’t want to end up potentially wasting my money on a movie that I feel like I might waste my money on.

So, with all of that being said, is the movie as bad as the internet made it out to be? Is my opinion different from everyone else to where I might disagree? There’s only one way to find out, which will probably be a painful point that I’m trying to make, all thanks to a comment I made on Facebook.

After

Just to let you know, this is going to take longer than it should, because I am in the process of moving out of my house. So, if it feels like I got something wrong or left something out in my review, that can only mean I forgot some details here and there. I saw this movie a few days ago, and its been a busy week for me. I’m just letting you know. And for full disclaimer, this will not change the fact that this movie still sucks the big one through a straw!

I’ve been thinking long and hard as to where to start with my thoughts on this movie, and I’m still not sure yet. Not because I feel conflicted with what I thought about it, because I already know. Oh, believe me, I DO! But I believe the best place for me to start is wherever I want with this colossal failure of a dying franchise! Yeah, this movie is just so bad that I don’t have a specific point on where to begin. I avoided reading and watching other people’s reviews on this movie, just to give you my personal thoughts, only because you might get to learn something new from me, even though I saw the Francis Rage video on this movie, as well as a little bit from Angry Joe’s early thoughts after seeing the movie. Plus, this movie only came out about half a year ago, so it’s still relatively new for more to learn out of this crater of crap. No, I didn’t say that because this is a sci-fi film, or sci-fi fantasy as how some people would classify this franchise. I still have no idea if that’s so or not.

First off, this movie is way too long! I know that’s kind of the thing for most movie series to have their final film being long to cram in the last bit of stuff that they want to add before the shows all over, but this movie can only offer my indulging rage against it. More on that later. Secondly, this movie is rushed! It’s not only too long, but it’s obvious that this movie needed to slow down, but couldn’t because the movie could of been longer that way, which is probably why you have the noticeable mistake of both being presented before you. Secondly, the characters. BB-8 now feels kind of useless, and even the new droid was useless as well, especially how forgettable it turned out to be. I can’t even remember it’s name either. No, don’t even bother telling me to give me the name. I don’t care, especially how it gave us more to follow the plot, which is only exposition that makes it pretty worthless! I was going to go through the other new characters, but then I slowly realized just how little I gave any thought to come up with something new. The only one that I did want to see more of was that one woman that Poe Dameron was best friends with. If I have to give this movie anything that was positive, it was her, even though I can’t remember her name, and I do think he deserves to be with her. Plus, those two had the closest thing to seeing something of interest between two people for me to be invested in. I think I will always just call her Daft Punk, only because of her helmet. Poe Dameron is the only saving grace that I have with the new sequel trilogy, only because of his character. He just deserves to be in a better movie is all.

Even the design screams of something out of the original trilogy, and had more character than Bobafett!

And not only that, but even C-3PO turned out to be the only best character in the movie. If anything, I’m glad that he was able to be in all of these films, and this film in particular is the only one in the new sequel trilogy that gave him some of his best moments. Really, the past two movies made him useless until this movie. And as usual, the special effects are good, and the cinematography is done pretty well. We can finally move on, having us forget about and move on from the overuse of the unnecessary amount of CGI and green and blue screens in the prequels that we couldn’t stand. Outside of that, I can’t find anything else good to say about this movie.

Before I go any further, I’m not trying to sound negative because that’s the popular thing to do with a dying franchise and that’s what virtually everyone else is doing. Far from it. Of course I heard this film was bad. I just wrote down some good things about this movie, above THIS paragraph. You even read it just now. All that I am doing is giving my honest opinion on a movie that I saw, and my honest opinion is that this movie still sucks. This also doesn’t help that the movies that we were getting up until this point (with the exception of Rogue One, to my opinion) were just dropping in quality due to how terrible these scripts are, as well as some of the bad ideas that we have been given. I mean, who saw and didn’t think that Snoak’s dumb golden rob was a laughable thing to look at? You think that’s just nip picking? Okay, how about some of the dumb lines that good ol’ geekdom101 pointed out in his second video for The Last Jedi, where Snoak taunted Kylo Ren, saying that he was “beaten by a girl?” How on earth do you defend such a line? Or how about the infamous shirtless Kylo Ren?

Yeah, I ended up looking at the Shirtless Kylo memes, and these two were the best!

This movie cannot work with the direction that we have been given. The part where both Kylo and Rei were playing tug-o-war with the drop ship, making us think that Rei killed Chewie with sith lightning looked like a looney tunes cartoon, showing me how low the franchise has fallen, and that was in the first half hour of the movie. The dagger than Rei finds buried underground that looks like a power rangers toy showed us were the McGuffen of the movie is at in the wreckage of a death star. I really don’t understand why or how that dagger was made to do that. Honestly, the way how I see it, this movie feels and looks like it thinks its smart, when I can easily see that it’s not. And then you got the new droid in this film that just so happens to know about the whereabouts of where Darth Sidious is at.

And now I get to my main issue with, not just this movie, but the whole sequel trilogy. This film finally reveals about Rei’s family, the one thing that J.J. Abrams and the rest of the writing staff have been building up to at this point. And what was the reveal? Rei’s parents were related to Lord Palpatine. Not only is this twist a massive dud, but it finally brings me the most frustrating thing that I have to ask about this sequel trilogy. Can these movies exist without the original trilogy? What I mean by that is can these movies be made without taking and copying almost everything from the original trilogy? Some people might wanna bring up the ring theory, but I think we can safely say that it’s a flawed theory. It wasn’t that much of a problem for me at first when The Force Awakens did it because I thought they needed to use something good from the past to make it into a good movie. But when you made it this far, and keep giving us the same thing, it gets ridiculous!

But the biggest infuriating moment in this movie was the reveal that princess Leia was being trained by Luke to become a Jedi. No, I am not making this up. First of all, this defeats the purpose of what The Last Jedi was trying to illustrate, which was that, or at least I was told, that everyone was able to use the force. Well, that’s now a farce, because in this movie, it’s telling me that the reason for why Leia was able to use the force in the last movie was that she was always a Jedi, which defeats the purpose of the movie being called the Last Jedi! Secondly, why didn’t she use any of her jedi training into use? And no, don’t tell me that it was an age issue. Like Obi Wan, Yoda, and a bunch of other old geezers from the Jedi council was able to do it with their age. Thirdly, why couldn’t she try to train other people in the ways of the force? You might say that she is running a rebellion, but I doubt that she couldn’t squeeze in some time to train at least one guy or two and let someone else watch over the rebellion for her.

And when you get to the end of the movie, they obviously repeat the flying ship battle from Return of the Jedi, but make the numbers bigger. Like that makes it any different. And as you would guess, Kylo Ren dies, like Darth Vader, but really dumb. The kiss between Ren and Rei was random and went nowhere. And then everyone from the rebellion celebrates, showing a lesbian kissing scene that only lasts for 2 seconds in the background. I guess that was the gay character that Abrams was bragging about for years, who had no character at all for anyone to care about. And then the movie ends with Rei going to Luke’s old house on Tatooine, taking the Skywalker name that isn’t rightfully hers. And I’m not going to say anything about the image I will post because I think I sums up everything about these movies and how symbolic it is:

If that tweet alone doesn’t sum up what these movies did to the whole franchise, then I don’t know what else to say.

Overall, The Rise of Skywalker is bad. Really, really bad! It did nothing of value to the franchise. All it did was try so hard to tell a story that was rewritten because this film was originally going to be all about princess Leia, but couldn’t because of Carrie Fisher’s passing, and gave us a script that was doomed from the very beginning. It was poorly rushed, kept meandering along the way, and giving the side characters almost nothing to do. Not even BB-8 was given that much screen time, and that was like the droid that was suppose to be the one that the baton was passed down to for a new generation. This movie was already getting negative feedback months before it’s release due to the terrible reception that it’s past movies were getting, and this one in particular did nothing to reverse that.

The biggest mistake about these movies were not Disney purchasing these movies and all of Lucasfilms, but it was George Lucas selling these movies to Disney. Its like no matter what he does anymore, any issue that these new movies that have something to do with him will always be his fault. It’s almost like these new sequels (and probably the next Indiana Jones movie) just has a curse that was set from George Lucas, and we all experienced it. I find it unbelievable that we can’t even live our lives as fans without getting a bad dose of Lucas in our lives.

anyway, I’m done talking about this movie. The only good thing that I can safely say that came out of Disney buying out Lucasfilms is The Madalorian and Rogue One to my opinion. But overall, the rest of the new Star Wars movies sucks, and I did this just to prove someone on Facebook a point.
